JK Collective, Inc. (headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), will begin importing and selling the Italian handbag brand METROCITY in Japan this fall. Following the launch of an online shopping site for Japan in August, METROCITY will also begin selling in department stores, pop-up shops, and select shops starting this fall. Starting with the 2015 Spring/Summer collection, METROCITY will focus on department stores and other outlets. The company is pursuing a three-year expansion plan in Japan. It plans to hold fashion shows and events inviting Korean and Japanese celebrities and customers, and hopes to open a flagship store in Tokyo next year. METROCITY was founded in Florence in 1992. Its bags, featuring the iconic "M" logo, minimalist silhouettes, and decorative metal accents, became a hot topic. The company relocated to Korea in 1997 and currently operates 102 stores across the country. Since 1997, METROCITY has sold a total of approximately 5.76 million bags. Metrocity bags are so popular in South Korea that one in three women between the ages of 20 and 50 owns one.

The brand also features celebrities in its advertising images every season: Milla Jovovich in 2011, Megan Fox in 2012, Adriana Lima in 2013, and Kate Beckinsale this year.

The target audience is people in their 20s to 40s. 85% of the product mix is women's and 15% men's. The lineup focuses on bags, but also includes shoes, leather goods, scarves, hats, clothing, and fragrances. Men's items include bags, belts, wallets, and leather goods. Clothing accounts for about 2% of the total, and the lineup includes women's sweatshirts and T-shirts. Prices range from ¥60,000 to ¥70,000 for women's handbags and men's business bags, ¥30,000 to ¥50,000 for wallets, and ¥40,000 to ¥60,000 for shoes.

In addition, to commemorate the arrival of the brand in Japan, they also plan to release "Medibear" (a portmanteau of Metro City and teddy bear).
