A new iconic bag from Issey Miyake. A colorful reversible bag made from a single piece of leather.

Jul 15, 2014

ISSEY MIYAKE will release a new iconic bag, the "Gaston Bag," in early July.

The bag, which appeared on the runway of the 2014-2015 Autumn/Winter collection, which expressed the majestic beauty of the forest in a dynamic form under the theme of "Rhythmatic Forest—the heartbeat of the forest," is inspired by the "single piece of cloth," a concept that symbolizes the brand, and is made from a single piece of leather.

The bag is reversible, with a colorful geometric print on the inner leather and a simple plain outer leather on both sides. The print uses a "laminate printing" technique, in which colored ink is printed multiple times, and the "joints" created on the surface serve as guidelines for changing the bag's shape in a three-dimensional way. The lineup includes three types: a tote bag (100,000 yen) and a clutch bag (large 78,000 yen, small 42,000 yen), each available in three colors. The tote bag and clutch bag (large) are reversible and come with a pouch that can be used as a bag-in-bag.
