New commercial facility, luxury hotel and more scheduled to open on Ginza Namiki-dori

Mar 30, 2015

A new building with 2 basement floors and 12 floors above ground, the Ginza Asahi Building (tentative name), will be constructed in the fall of 2017 on Namiki-dori Street in Ginza, which is lined with brand shops and long-established stores. The address is 6-6-7 Ginza, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.

Floors 3 to 12 of the newly constructed building will house an international-class luxury hotel, and floors 1 and 2 will house tenants befitting Namiki-dori. The exterior design is based on the concept of "A Century of Light - a light that illuminates the next generation, and the thoughts that reside within," and will be elegant and refined to harmonize with the Ginza streetscape.

The planned site, which covers approximately 1,800 square meters, was the base of the Asahi Shimbun, which was founded in Osaka and moved to Tokyo in 1888 until it moved to Yurakucho in 1927. During this period, Ishikawa Takuboku and Natsume Soseki both worked there as employees. The old building was home to the Ginza flagship store of Sun Motoyama, a pioneer in Japanese import shops, but this store will be relocated following demolition. Construction of the new building is expected to begin in February 2016.
