Scandinavian furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen has collaborated with fashion designer Raf Simons. A custom-made model from the Poul Kjærholm collection will be sold worldwide in a limited edition of 25 sets (priced at ¥2,016,000). Founded in Denmark in 1885, Fritz Hansen pioneered the use of steam-bent wooden furniture and was the first in Japan to introduce steel furniture. Today, the company has grown into one of Scandinavia's leading furniture manufacturers. The furniture designed by designer Poul Kjærholm during his lifetime has been highly praised for its delicate details and unique aura. The collection, which began development in 1951, was one of the earliest examples of steel, a material not yet widely used at the time. Among the collaborative pieces is the PK80, a daybed with excellent structural balance. Its refined form is a signature piece by Kjærholm, highly acclaimed for its minimalist elegance. Meanwhile, the PK91, inspired by ancient Egyptian folding stools, features an elegant design that embodies minimalism. Both pieces feature frames in satin-finished stainless steel. The PK80 also features a numbered leather emblem.
These pieces feature Sonar2, the finest textile from Kvadrat, a leading European designer textile manufacturer. This results in fabric-upholstered furniture, a rare find in the Poul Kjærholm collection, which is typically exclusively leather. The pieces were designed by Raf Simons, who studied industrial design at university and worked as a furniture designer after graduating.
This collaborative piece will be sold in a limited edition of 25 sets worldwide (priced at 2,016,000 yen). A traveling exhibition will also be held in Japan from April 1st at partner stores, including interior design shop LIVING MOTIF.
