Bottega Veneta's symphonic tale of circles and squares [Women's Fall/Winter 2015-16]

Mar 4, 2015

Sergei Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf," a children's orchestral piece, rang out endlessly at the Bottega Veneta Fall/Winter 2015-16 collection. While Tomas Maier typically presents monochrome garments with elaborate patterns and details, this collection was unusually graphic. The first thing that caught my eye were the colorful dots. They were printed on every garment, from jackets and pants to blouses and knitwear. They were also featured in a variety of materials. Dots of a different color peek out from the underside of the collar on technical coats. Blouses and suits feature flocked prints, creating a shadow-like effect. Knit dresses feature dots with a rounded, raised finish. The next most striking feature were the linear details. Pants with thick padding and patterns create square shoulders and a straight silhouette, while coats and knitwear feature needle-punched stripes, creating a contrast with the circular dots. One dress also featured linear tape panels.

The second half of the show featured a lineup of elaborate dresses, typical of Thomas. The dots and jewels on the inside were subtly changed in color to match the lace changes on the outside, and the dots were hand-painted, creating elaborate clothing that was enjoyable to hold in your hands.

For the feet, the collection consisted of square-type shoes with multi-buckles on the upper. They were available in a variety of styles, including boots, pumps, and loafers. The new Monaco bag is a handbag with a hard material cover and a supple leather body. It is available in a variety of materials, colors, and intrecciato styles.
