Bottega Veneta's New Furniture: Architectural Design without Following Trends [Milan Salone 2014 Report]

May 1, 2014

As fashion brands focus on home furnishings, their presence was prominent at the Milano Salone, an international furniture trade fair held in Milan, Italy, from April 7th to 13th. This report focuses on Italian fashion brands and introduces new furniture and interior items unveiled during the Salone.

Bottega Veneta, which presents its home collection every two years, added new items to its existing line while also expanding the range of choices within the same design by offering variations in color, texture, and material.

In terms of furniture, existing designs such as the sawhorse table, inspired by sawhorses, and the round-top coffee table were expanded with new material variations in four different oak finishes: dark oak, uniform, pergamena, and ash. The sawhorse table, with its oak legs and glass top, stands out more as a structure than as a piece of designed furniture. The oak coffee table and bookcase, both pieces of furniture, feature sculptural designs composed of geometric patterns such as circles, squares, and columns, evoking an architectural impression. This design is typical of creative director Tomas Maier, who is also deeply versed in architecture. While the pieces have a sense of dignity, their minimalist design allows them to blend seamlessly into any interior.

In addition to this minimalist design that makes the most of the wood's presence, the sofa upholstery now comes in a wide range of colors, never before seen. Available in 14 cotton velvet and 12 mohair velvet, the same design can be tailored to suit the occasion and climate of your home. Of course, Bottega Veneta's signature intrecciato woven leather is also featured on the newly introduced bench seat.

The new collection, featuring timeless and simple designs rather than eccentric ones, is filled with long-lasting pieces that, in Maier's words, "do not follow trends." The new Home Collection will be available for order at Bottega Veneta boutiques starting this September.
