Pigalle, one of today's most promising brands, won the Grand Prix at the ANDAM* French National Association for the Development of Fashion Arts in July of this year, receiving a prize of 250,000 euros. The brand has chosen Maruyamacho, Shibuya, Tokyo, as the location for its first overseas store.
Pigalle opened its first select shop in the Pigalle district of Paris in 2009, and launched its own brand in 2011. Every season at Paris Men's Fashion Week, the brand has presented collections with a Parisian flair, drawing inspiration from sports and street fashion. In Japan, the brand has opened limited-time pop-up shops at the United Arrows Harajuku flagship store and Omotesando GYLE, and designer Stephan Ashpool, who he describes as having visited Japan "countless times" over the past 10 years. Just as the Pigalle district of Paris has long been known as a red-light district, Stéphane himself was drawn to the neighborhood's historical character, particularly the Maruyamacho entertainment district that flourished at the top of Dogenzaka. He negotiated for the space, formerly a coffee shop, to open his new store. The store was designed by Stéphane himself, and the interior was completed by the family, including his father. In addition to the full Pigalle collection, "PIGALLE TOKYO" will also feature collaboration bags with Porter and Nike. In Paris, the second "PIGALLE BASKETBALL STORE" opened, and the Tokyo store showcased the unreleased "Pigalle x Nike LeBron 12 Elite" before its Paris launch. Incidentally, the ANDEM 2015 Grand Prix, where Pigalle won, attracted attention for being shortlisted against Kunihiko Morinaga's "ANREALAGE."
