CHANEL has produced the short film "Once and Forever" to coincide with its 2015-2016 Métiers d'Art collection, "Paris in Rome." Directed by Karl Lagerfeld, the film depicts the behind-the-scenes of a fictional biopic about Gabrielle Chanel. The young Gabrielle Chanel is played by actress Kristen Stewart, the face of the Spring/Summer 2015 eyewear collection and a Chanel muse. The 1950s Gabrielle is played by Geraldine Chaplin, making her fourth appearance in the film. The biopic's production faces one challenge after another. The original director falls through the cracks, and Kristen Stewart's character is constantly complaining... Behind-the-scenes scenes, such as fittings and script readings, alternate before segueing into the filming of the play-within-a-play.
In the film, Kristen Stewart and Geraldine Chaplin wear pieces from the Chanel archives dating from the early 1900s to the 1960s, including a dress made in 1919, the only one remaining from that period.
Karl Lagerfeld commented, "Kristen is like Chanel herself. I wanted to convey the story of Chanel's life through each era, and her return to fashion in the 1950s."
