A collaboration between dolphins, fish, and fireworks at the aquarium! "Fireworks Aquarium" to be held in Shinagawa

Jun 30, 2016

Aqua Park Shinagawa (located within the Shinagawa Prince Hotel, 4-10-30 Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo) will host "Fireworks Aquarium by NAKED" from July 7th to September 30th. This space will feature a variety of fireworks displays fused with the underwater world of dolphins and colorful fish.

Since last winter, Aqua Park Shinagawa has collaborated with NAKED, the creative group behind the 3D projection mapping at Tokyo Station, to create a space that adapts to the changing seasons, embodying one of the facility's concepts of "variability."

This third installment will be themed around fireworks, a beloved Japanese summer tradition. Two programs will be featured, taking advantage of the different daytime and nighttime atmospheres created by the skylights. The "Night Performance" will be a first in Japan, featuring 360-degree projections onto a round water curtain, video projections on a 160-meter wall, and dolphins. In this performance, the constellation Dolphina appears alongside the Milky Way, descending from the night sky and onto the stadium in a sparkling shower. The light transforms into dolphins, which leap out of the water. As the finale approaches, the vibrant fireworks and the dynamic dolphin jumps combine to create a spectacular atmosphere. Meanwhile, the "Day Performance" features a chic and stylish show befitting Japan's festival season. Set to stylish music evoking a Japanese atmosphere, the dolphins and their trainers, clad in long haori coats with a Japanese umbrella pattern, perform a variety of rhythmic moves.

In addition, the exhibition area combines the creatures with projection mapping, artwork, fresh flowers, and more to create a "modern Japanese" atmosphere throughout each zone. The exhibition will feature "Water Fireworks," an entrance space where splashes of water burst forth; "Wind Fireworks," with its unique and beautiful goldfish displays and wind chimes flickering from the ceiling, creating a refreshing feeling like a summer breeze; and "Umbrella Fireworks," which change content between day and night, with umbrella fireworks creating a bright image of coolly blooming in the sunlight during the day and an emotional festival-like atmosphere at night.

The jellyfish exhibition zone, which makes the most of its large space, approximately 9 meters wide and 35 meters deep, with mirrored walls and ceiling, will offer the ultimate in "soothing" relaxation. LED lights and moving lights will decorate the ceiling, creating a gorgeous world that combines sound and light with the swaying jellyfish. There will also be moving light displays that change content depending on the season and event. Other drinks on sale include "Hanabi Ichiban Shibori Frozen (draft)" (700 yen), a kiwi beer made by submerging "Ice no Mi (kiwi)" in beer, colored with blue curacao, and topped with Ichiban Shibori Frozen; "HaNaBi" (700 yen), a gin-based cranberry soda with "Ice no Mi (grapes and pears)" floating on top; and "HaNaBi Squash" (500 yen), a non-alcoholic strawberry squash cocktail with "Ice no Mi (grapes and pears)" floating on top.
