Contemporary art displayed at a long-established obi wholesaler in Kyoto. Exhibitions of On Kawara and Donald Judd.

Jan 22, 2015

The contemporary art exhibition "Onkochishin - On Kawara & Donald Judd" will be held at Kyoto's long-established obi wholesaler, Kondaya Genbei, from February 21st to 24th.
The theme of this exhibition is "the fusion of conceptual and minimal art with Japanese space." The venue will feature works by On Kawara, who passed away in July 2014, as well as Donald Judd, a master of minimal art.
On Kawara specialized in works that explore themes of "time" and "existence." This exhibition will feature several works from his "Date Painting" series. The dates and locations of the works are depicted in the local language on monochromatic canvases. A retrospective of his work will also be held at the Guggenheim Museum in New York from February 6th to May 3rd.
The Contemporary Art Foundation, the organizer of the exhibition, is an organization chaired by Yusaku Maezawa, CEO of Start Today, which operates Zozotown. For this exhibition, they sought to harmonize the works of both artists with a Japanese space, using their own art collections.
