■ "4 Leporellos" by Saul Steinberg

Born in Romania, Saul Steinberg studied philosophy and architecture at the University of Milan. He later moved to the United States and became a successful artist, appearing on the cover of The New Yorker magazine and painting Eames chairs.

This book is a compilation of four drawings by Steinberg on the walls of a spiral maze for children that was exhibited at the 10th Milan Triennale in 1954. In addition to "The Line," published by the Swiss publisher Nieves in 2011, this collection consists of four volumes: "Types of Architecture," "Shores of Mediterranean," and "Cities of Italy." Each long sheet of paper is folded like an accordion and housed in a single box. The drawings depict landscapes of Italy, where Steinberg spent his student years, as well as stories tracing architectural history. The seamless, rhythmic flow of his work allows viewers to enjoy it as if reading a scroll. This collection of drawings, with its slightly cynical yet humorous nature, is no surprise, as it is no wonder that many Japanese manga artists and illustrators, including Fujiko F. Fujio, Yoji Kuri, and Makoto Wada, were influenced by him. Many of his collections are already out of print and difficult to obtain, making this a valuable resource.
