Masaru Suzuki, a textile designer who also designs for Marimekko, has unveiled new textiles for his "MOOMIN TRIBUTE WORKS" project, which depicts the world of Moomin. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of original author Tove Jansson. The four textiles, each in two colors and with four patterns titled "Here I Am," "On the Journey," "Various Things in the Forest," and "Here Comes My Little!", feature original stories that Suzuki created while embracing Jansson's worldview. Made of 100% cotton, the textiles are woven with slub yarns developed from scratch to match the image of the work. The prints incorporate expressive techniques unique to a textile designer, such as the connection of patterns, color combinations, and the "sense of depth" created by overlapping prints. Priced at 3,800 yen per meter. In addition to interior items such as "Multi-Cloth" (S size 6,000 yen / L size 8,500 yen) printed with the new pattern, cushion covers (45cm square 2,800 yen / 60cm square 3,800 yen), and custom-made curtains, the lineup also includes a variety of items such as trays (3,600 yen), tote bags (4,400 yen), cut cloth (2,600 yen), and handkerchiefs (1,500 yen). These products are sold at fabric specialty store "FIQ" and the store's online shop. (All prices shown exclude consumption tax.) In addition, collaboration events will be held at "everyday by COLLEX" and "everyday by COLLEX inn," which carry Scandinavian design items, to celebrate their new openings and anniversaries. Special in-store displays will be unveiled, and limited-edition products will be on sale. Participating stores will be Lumine Yokohama and Amuest stores from March 1st, LaLaport Tokyo Bay store from March 14th, COREDO Muromachi 3rd store from March 20th, Thinks Shibuya store from April 17th, Kirarina Keio Kichijoji store from April 23rd, and Lucua Osaka store from May 3rd.
Masaru Suzuki graduated from the Department of Dyeing and Weaving Design at Tama Art University. After working at Awatsuji Hiroshi Design Studio, he went independent in 1995 and presented his work at Scandinavia's largest exhibition in 2009. He currently designs for his own brand, Ottaipnu, as well as for Finland's Marimekko.
