"Suzuki Masaru Umbrella Exhibition 2013: Portable Textiles" opens on May 11th at CASE gallery in Yoyogi-Uehara, Tokyo, and runs until May 26th.
Suzuki Masaru is a textile designer who designs for his original fabric brand "OTTAIPNU" and Finland's "MARIMEKKO." His textiles are characterized by vibrant colors and bold patterns.
The "OTTAIPNU KASA COLLECTION," featured in this exhibition, is an umbrella brand that Suzuki has been working on with Moonbat since 2011. It offers rain umbrellas, parasols, and umbrellas suitable for both rain and shine. It uses the eco-design umbrella system, "ecode/ECODE," which allows the fabric, ribs, and handle to be easily disassembled. By changing the fabric on a single umbrella, you can enjoy a variety of textiles to match your mood and fashion.
In addition to eight new works released in 2013, this exhibition will also display and sell all of Suzuki's previously released patterns. In addition, a CD of original music created for this exhibition is scheduled to be released in Suzuki Masaru's textile packaging.
Suzuki was born in Chiba Prefecture in 1968. After graduating from the Department of Dyeing and Weaving Design at Tama Art University, he worked at the Kuritsuji Hiroshi Design Studio. He became independent in 1995 and founded his own company, Unpiatto Ltd., in 2002. While working on interior textile planning both domestically and internationally, he founded the fabric brand Ottaipinu in 2005. He currently produces products primarily focused on printed fabrics, mainly in Japan and Finland.
