The themes of Yohji Yamamoto's 2014 Spring/Summer women's collection were "deconstruction" and "meaningless excitement." The designer took on the challenge of breaking down the structure of tailored clothing and reconstructing it into a new concept of clothing.
The sleeves were key. By connecting the sleeves to innerwear or reattaching them to the garment in a different way, new silhouettes were created. This technique transformed tailored jackets into sexy styles with exposed shoulders. In addition to monochrome, colorful neon colors were also frequently used, and the combination of different colors emphasized the structure of the garments.
Soft materials such as jersey were used for structured silhouettes, including tailored tops, coats, and shirts. Sheer fabrics were folded and fitted to the body to create elegant dresses. Items incorporating Eastern elements were also featured, such as tops with wide kimono sleeves and a women's version of the hakama-style pants popular in the men's collection.
