Leather goods brand used by Louis XVI and Napoleon arrives at Umeda Hankyu

Aug 18, 2014

FAURE LE PAGE, a long-established Parisian leather goods brand, will open a pop-up store on the first floor of the Hankyu Umeda Main Store in Osaka from August 27th to September 2nd. From the following day, the 3rd, it will become a permanent store at the International Bag Galleries on the second floor.

The brand's signature motif is the écaille (scale-shaped) toile, which is not only seen as an ornament on weapons but is also said in mythology to represent "women who seduce and captivate the opposite sex." The items available are made using seven craftsmanship processes, including silkscreen printing on cotton canvas, wax processing, and grain processing to create a rough surface. The lineup includes the "BAG 1717" (¥315,000) adorned with leather ribbons, the "PETIT PARADE SS2" handbag with shoulder strap (¥245,000), the "DAILY BATTLE 32" tote bag (¥100,000), and the "POCHETTE GUN 22" pistol-shaped pouch (¥38,000).

Foret Le Page was founded by the Le Page family in 1717. Since the reign of Louis XV, the company has been a purveyor to French royalty and aristocracy, supplying hunting rifles to Louis XVI and sabres to Napoleon. In the 20th century, the company produced leather goods such as hunting rifle cases, boot cases, and game bags. In 2012, the company opened its first flagship store on Rue Cambon in Paris. This is the third store worldwide and the first outside France, following the Galeries Lafayette department store.
