On June 14th, a reception event celebrating the collaboration between Barbour and White Mountaineering was held at the Hospital Club, the popular venue for London Fashion Week Men's Spring/Summer 2015. Barbour, an outdoor lifestyle brand that began in the 1890s with durable oilcloth waterproof jackets and is now beloved worldwide as a British Royal Warrant holder, chose White Mountaineering as its partner for its Spring/Summer 2015 "Global Collaboration." Collaborative items between the two brands were previously released in the Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 collection, but were only available in Japan. This Spring/Summer 2015 collection marks the first time the collaboration will be released globally. The lineup includes a raglan-sleeve blouson, cotton jacket, shorts and jacket set, and backpack. The pieces combine durability, strength, and functionality to withstand the harsh North Sea environment with an urban feel and attention to detail, woven with an outdoor perspective. The distinctive wave print is inspired by the waves of the North Sea, known for its harsh natural environment, and is based on Barbour's history as workwear for sailors and fishermen when the brand was first established. It also links to the waves in the ukiyo-e prints of Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. The prints are available in two colors: blue and khaki. Ian Bergin, head of men's wear at Barbour, said, "This collaboration is a groundbreaking opportunity for Barbour, a brand with a long tradition, and White Mountaineering, known for its modern designs with a focus on design and detail. Each piece is a new discovery for us, and we hope to continue creating things never before seen." The collaboration is expected to continue for several seasons.
