"Mode of Barbie" Exhibition to commemorate 55th anniversary. What if Barbie worked in Kobe?

Aug 27, 2014

To celebrate the 55th anniversary of fashion doll Barbie's debut, the "Mode of Barbie" Exhibition will be held at Sogo Kobe from September 30th to October 6th. Approximately 550 Barbies will be on display, including rare, never-before-seen collections created in collaboration with fashion brands and celebrities. The exhibition will look back on fashion history, showcasing Barbie collections from her early debut to the present day, with the cooperation of Barbie collector Yasuhiro Sekiguchi, as well as fashion magazines and design drawings from the time. Barbie-sized recreations of dresses and shoes from brands such as Ralph Lauren, Armani, Juicy Couture, and Christian Louboutin will also be on display.

In addition, the collaborative project with Kobe Fashion Week, "What if Barbie worked at a Kobe company?" will feature Barbies wearing uniforms from six Kobe companies (Henri Charpentier, Kinki Taxi, Kobe Portopia Hotel, Hayakoman Transport Kobe Seabass, Donq, and Sogo Kobe store), as well as Barbies with hair and makeup by four hair salons (Alex, Chest, La Scente, and White House).

There will also be a photo spot where you can take commemorative photos with a life-size Barbie in Barbie's room, and a "Barbie Market" selling exhibition-exclusive items. The shop will also be selling a Seibu/Sogo limited edition doll (2,700 yen), limited to 100 units.
