"Doll Culture Exhibition" to be held featuring popular dolls such as Licca-chan, Jenny, and Barbie

Jul 11, 2014

The "Doll Culture Exhibition - Licca-chan, Jenny, Barbie, Blythe, and Super Dollfie: From the Origins of 'Kawaii' to the Future" will be held at the Tokyo City View observation deck in Roppongi Hills from September 13th to October 19th. The exhibition will spotlight five of Japan's most popular dolls: Licca-chan, Jenny, Barbie, Blythe, and Super Dollfie. The exhibit will be themed around the world of each doll, with "Kawaii" for Licca-chan and "Gorgeous" for Barbie. In addition, rare one-of-a-kind collections and first-run dolls will be on display, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship behind each piece. The main visual for the exhibition was created by Sebastian Masuda, an artist garnering worldwide attention as a promoter of "Kawaii" culture. There will also be an exhibition of each doll that was actually used in the filming of the main visuals. The exhibition will be supervised by Showa-era mascot and doll maker Uyama Ayumi and fairy tale producer Takeyama Noriya.

In addition, a special shop will be set up with original goods for each doll, as well as licensed goods for Barbie, Blythe, and Licca-chan, and advance sales and event-exclusive dolls are planned.
