Kunihiko Morinaga of ANREALAGE will be designing the costumes for the new NHK Special series "Next World: Our Future," which will begin airing in January next year. A press conference was held on December 2nd at the Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) in Koto Ward, Tokyo. The five-part series, "Next World: Our Future," explores how new technologies emerging daily in fields such as business, medicine, and entertainment will transform our lives. It will be divided into two parts: the latest documentary footage, including interviews with scientists around the world, and a near-future drama set in 2045, when advances in computers are said to have made artificial intelligence superior to the human brain. Ryunosuke Kamiki will serve as the program host and play a young person of the future in the drama. Sakanaction will perform a remix of the program's theme song, "Goodbye." Kunihiko Morinaga of ANREALAGE will be in charge of costume design, and Daito Manabe of Rhizomatiks will be in charge of technical direction. Morinaga will design costumes for Kamiki and Sakanaction's "Next World Live," which will be featured in the first episode, "How Far Can We Predict the Future?" on January 3rd. The show recreates a live performance in 2045 using cutting-edge video technology and interactive effects, including motion-controlled cameras and augmented reality (AR). The program's official website also features viewer participation using "SYMPHONY," an AI (artificial intelligence) developed by Rhizomatiks that learns viewer preferences and suggests optimal styling and remixes. SYMPHONY predicts each viewer's preferences and suggests clothing styling for an avatar designed by ANREALAGE. The avatar can then participate in "Next World Live" as a virtual audience member. SYMPHONY will also predict viewers' preferences and suggest remixes of the theme song by Sakanaction, which viewers can customize to suit their own tastes. Morinaga commented, "This is a chance to create clothes never before seen. I believe the meaning of dressing will have changed by 2045. This time, light is the keyword, and it will be like wearing light, but we don't know what it will be yet." He continued, "I've made costumes for Sakanaction once, but this time I plan to make everyone's costumes different. Furthermore, not only will Kamiki and Sakanaction's costumes use new materials, but I also want to express future designs that are not yet possible with current technology through AR and interactive effects." The documentary portion of the fourth episode, "How Fun Can Life Be?", will also feature footage from Anrealage's Paris collection. Kamiki also said, "I hope this will give people an opportunity to think about the future," while Sakanaction vocalist Ichiro Yamaguchi said, "Music has evolved with technology, but this has given me an opportunity to think about what music will be like in the future. Even as music evolves, I believe songs will remain." Manabe said, "The technical production is currently under development, but the emotions and moving moments will remain even 30 years from now, and the fact that a work cannot be completed without human intervention will remain unchanged."
