"The Work of Mitsumasa Anno" exhibition held in Kyoto, displaying approximately 90 works from his debut work "Fushiginae" to his latest work

An exhibition titled "The Work of Mitsumasa Anno" will be held at the Eki Kyoto Museum in Kyoto from March 3rd to 26th, showcasing approximately 90 carefully selected works, from his early trilogy including his debut picture book, "Mysterious Pictures," to his latest works.

Born in Tsuwano, Shimane Prefecture in 1926, Mitsumasa Anno is a painter who has produced a succession of highly original works since his debut in the picture book world with "Mysterious Pictures" in 1968. With a deep knowledge of not only art but also science, mathematics, literature, and history, Anno's works, which display his extensive knowledge and outstanding sense, have been translated not only in Japan but also around the world. The exhibition will begin with Anno's debut work and will also feature a number of other works, including the watercolor painting of flowers and plants, "Wildflowers and Dwarfs," the "Travel Picture Book" series depicting European townscapes, and the paper cutting work, "Old Tales: Kirigami Momotaro." In addition, two of Anno's works that will be exhibited inside the "TWILIGHT EXPRESS Mizukaze," which is scheduled to begin operation in 2017, will be shown for the first time.
