To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Azumino Chihiro Art Museum, the exhibition "Takeshi Motai: Dream Traveler Created by Yoshitomo Nara" will be held from March 1 to May 9.
Motai created countless illustrations for children's books during the chaotic postwar period, but passed away early, before the heyday of picture books in Japan. However, his artistic career influenced many artists. Nara is one of those who was influenced and drawn to Motai.
The exhibition will feature works by Motai that Nara still considers "new." In keeping with Nara's philosophy, "I'm drawn to paintings that are born from a dialogue with myself, rather than paintings to show to others," the selection of works that vividly reflect Motai's inner self allows visitors to experience the new appeal of Takeshi Motai from Nara's perspective.
