An exhibition of Eric Carle, the bestselling picture book author of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," is being held

"Eric Carle: The Art of Eric Carle," an exhibition by American picture book author Eric Carle, known for his best-selling picture book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," will be held at the Setagaya Art Museum in Setagaya, Tokyo, from April 22 to July 2, 2017. Eric Carle continues to captivate children around the world with his colorful illustrations and surprising gimmicks. Held with the full cooperation of the Eric Carle Picture Book Museum in Massachusetts, the exhibition will feature over 160 carefully selected rare materials, including original illustrations from "What's Up, Mr. Bear?", the book that inspired Carle to become a picture book author, and the hugely popular "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." The exhibition will also feature works by artists who influenced Carle, such as Paul Klee and Leo Lionni. The exhibition also features original illustrations from picture books he co-authored with Japanese author Iwamura Kazuo, costume designs for the stage, and three-dimensional works, giving a glimpse into Carle's artistic side.

After the Tokyo venue closes, the exhibition is scheduled to travel to the Eki Kyoto Museum of Art.
