Rizzoli has released "Dior Glamour: Mark Shaw," a collection of photographs by photographer Mark Shaw of the brand's haute couture collections. The book features 130 images, mostly never before published, in black and white and color, originally published in Life magazine between 1952 and 1962, the most influential magazine of the time. The images include one of Christian Dior's favorite model, Renée, and another of Dior's model Kouka wearing a wedding dress designed by Dior's third designer, Marc Bohan, at a show held in the Grand Salon at Dior's headquarters. The text is by Natasha Fraser-Cavassoni, a Paris-based British writer whose work has appeared in UK Vogue, Visionnaire, and US Vanity Fair. The book features a foreword by Lee Radziwill, fashion icon and sister of Jacqueline Kennedy. It is available in both French and English, and costs 90 euros.
Shaw was a New York-based fashion and advertising photographer. He began his career at Harper's Bazaar and Mademoiselle magazines, and then spent 16 years as a photographer at Life magazine. He shot 27 covers and over 100 features, and is known for his portraits of such glamorous celebrities as the Kennedy family, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, and Pablo Picasso. His work brought the elegance of Parisian couture to America. He passed away in 1969.
