Strawberry daifuku, said to have been invented in the late Showa era, is featured at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store in January. A wide variety of varieties are available at each store on the basement floor. Osumi Tamaya's Original Strawberry Bean Daifuku (230 yen, arrives every Wednesday around 11:00 AM), said to be the originator of strawberry daifuku, uses adzuki beans that are not soaked in water to enhance the flavor, and the firmness of the mochi is adjusted according to the season. Kado Fukaido's Deluxe Amaou Strawberry (399 yen, arrives every Tuesday and Friday) is luxuriously packed with a whole deluxe-sized Amaou strawberry, making it extremely filling. Mosuke Dango's Strawberry Daifuku (361 yen, arrives every Monday, Thursday, and Saturday) and Kitaya Rokuninshu's Strawberry Daifuku (189 yen, arrives from January 16th to mid-March) feature strawberries on top of the daifuku. Kikunosha Honten's strawberry daifuku (263 yen, available only on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays) is an elegant treat made by wrapping strawberries in egg yolk paste and mochi, and is only available at the Nihonbashi store.
