Israeli artist Sigalit Landau will be holding a solo exhibition, "The Ram of Ur," at Maison Hermès Forum on the 8th floor in Tokyo's Ginza district. The exhibition runs from May 17th to August 18th. This will be Landau's first solo exhibition in Japan, showcasing two installations: "Out in the Thicket," which makes use of the high ceilings to depict an olive grove, and "Behold the Fire and the Wood," which tells the story of life in a typical Israeli home in the 1950s. Landau will also be showcasing a large-scale video projection, a first for the Forum. Born in Jerusalem in 1969, Sigalit Landau spent several years in the UK and the US before moving to Tel Aviv. His work reflects the history of his country, which has always been marked by pain, through themes such as life and death, the body, and human relationships. In Japan, his representative video work of a watermelon floating in the Dead Sea and a sculpture made of crystallized Dead Sea salt were introduced at the Yokohama Triennale, an international contemporary art exhibition, in 2011.
