Daft Punk releases new album with action figures

May 7, 2013

French dance music group Daft Punk, who recently appeared in a Saint Laurent advertising campaign, will release their new album, "Random Access Memories," in May. To commemorate the release, Bandai Co., Ltd. will release Daft Punk action figures.
The figures are fully supervised by Daft Punk. Standing approximately 150mm tall, each joint in the body is movable, allowing for a variety of poses. The helmets are plated to recreate the sparkle of the real thing. They will be released in November for ¥4,725 each. Pre-orders will be made to order online (through Bandai's official shopping site, Premium Bandai, and the Tamashii Web Shop), with pre-orders expected to begin in late May.
"Random Access Memories" is Daft Punk's fourth album overall and their first in eight years, and will be released on May 22nd. Prior to the release, Daft Punk released an image featuring Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel wearing helmets on their official website and Facebook page on March 4th. It garnered over 100,000 likes and over 10,000 shares in just one day. Pre-orders for the album began on iTunes worldwide on March 24th, and it reached number one in France and number two in the United States in just one day, making it into the top 10 of album charts in six countries around the world. The single "Get Lucky" from the album also features Nile Rodgers, Pharrell Williams, and Kanye West. In the music video, Daft Punk wears sequined suits from Saint Laurent, whose creative director is Hedi Slimane. The outfit worn by the figure also recalls the Dior Homme leather jackets designed by Hedi Slimane that Daft Punk wore in their 2006 feature film directorial debut, "Daft Punk ELECTROMA."
