Ark Hills to host "wood education" event for parents and children during Golden Week, where children can experience the forest through play, learning, and food

Apr 10, 2017

A parent-child event called "Let's Play with Trees, Let's Think about Forests with More Trees" will be held from May 3rd to 5th at Ark Karajan Square in Ark Hills, Akasaka, Tokyo. The event aims to allow parents and children to interact with trees and experience the forest while in the city. Through play, learning, and food experiences, the event allows participants to engage with trees and forests from various angles. Ark Hills has been home to a thriving plant life for over 30 years, and this event teaches participants about the importance of the environment and greenery. The venue is divided into four areas: the "Play Area," the "Learning Area," the "Eat Area," and the "Shop Area." The "Play Area" features building blocks and toys made from domestic wood, allowing participants to experience the scent and texture of wood with their whole body. The "Learning Area" offers a total of 10 workshops, including crafting original items and sweets using domestic wood and deerskin. The "Eat" area will offer original game dishes prepared by Ark Hills restaurants for three days only, including the "Homemade Venison Burger (700 yen)" by American burger shop Bubby's New York Ark Hills and the "Duck and Venison Partabrique (1,200 yen)" by Au Bacanal. Additionally, the "Shop" area will feature a market featuring a selection of "delicious, fun, and cute" items made with the bounty of the forest, including canned game meat from SOHOLM. Also featured at the venue is the wooden mobile home "JYUBAKO," a collaboration between architect Kengo Kuma, who designed the main stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and outdoor brand Snow Peak. Experience a nature-oriented lifestyle by reading books and picture books related to forests and trees.

During the event, the Roof Garden on the roof of Suntory Hall, which is normally closed to the public, will be specially opened, and on the final day, a garden concert by the Forest Music Band will be held in the garden. Other events include the "Town Exploration Tour: The Secrets of Trees and Greenery," which parents and children can learn about together.
