Japan's first Mexican torta sandwich specialty store opens at Ark Hills

Mar 19, 2017

Torta Rica, Japan's first torta specialty store that produces and sells Mexican tortas and homemade soups, will open on March 27th at Ark Hills in Minato Ward, Tokyo (1-12-32 Akasaka, Minato Ward, Tokyo).

The store is a sister brand of TACO RiCO, a taco and burrito specialty store that also opened in Ark Hills in April 2015, and the menu items are all handmade in-store. The shop's specialty is the Mexican "Torta" sandwich, which is made with chewy bread and packed with ingredients such as the main ingredient, lettuce, frejolas (bean paste), pickled potatoes and carrots, and jalapeños. The sandwiches include "Achiote Chicken" (600 yen / half 350 yen), "Pork Al Pastor" (700 yen / half 400 yen), "Mexican Chorizo & Scramble" (700 yen / half 400 yen), and "Avocado & Grilled Vegetables" (700 yen / half 400 yen), as well as "Torta White Bread" (150 yen), which was jointly developed for the torta, and "Heavy Clam Chowder," "Homemade Chicken Ball Soup," and "Paprika-Rich Gazpacho" (each 600 yen for a medium size and 400 yen for a small size), which are popular as homemade soups in the United States and Central and South America.

In addition, "Agua Fresca," a homemade juice shop based on the concept of fresh juice, offers "Kappa & Mint," "Squid & Lime," "Kiwi & Mint," and "Pineapple" (each medium size 450 yen, small size 350 yen), and there are also great value set menus that can be enjoyed with your favorite soup or agua fresca.

The shop is scheduled to be open for a limited period of six months after opening.
