■KIGI's Watanabe Yoshie holds exhibition "Making a Picture" to commemorate winning the 19th Kamekura Yusaku Award
KIGI's Watanabe Yoshie's exhibition "Making a Picture" will be held at Creation Gallery G8 in Ginza, Tokyo until May 20th. The exhibition, held to commemorate Watanabe's receipt of the Kamekura Yusaku Award, will feature her award-winning confectionery package design "AUDREY," as well as her other illustrations.
■A major retrospective of Yayoi Kusama's artistic energy, "My Eternal Soul," opens at the National Art Center, Tokyo.
A major retrospective of avant-garde artist Yayoi Kusama, "Yayoi Kusama: My Eternal Soul," is running until May 22nd at the National Art Center, Tokyo in Roppongi, Tokyo. The exhibition, starting with the masterpiece "My Eternal Soul," will explore the "Kusama world" in its entirety, from early works painted in Matsumoto, where she was born and raised, to collages created during her time in the United States and after returning to Japan.
■"Murakami Takashi's Superflat Considerations on Contemporary Ceramics" is being held! Approximately 300 pieces on display, including ceramic works by contemporary artists
Murakami Takashi's exhibition "Murakami Takashi's Superflat Considerations on Contemporary Ceramics" will be held at the Towada Art Center in Aomori Prefecture until May 28th. The exhibition will display and publicly display approximately 300 pieces by 28 contemporary ceramic artists and ceramic works by contemporary artists, curated by Murakami Takashi, who is not only an artist but also a collector, curator and gallerist.
■Tokyo Photographic Art Museum to Hold Exhibition of Yamazaki Hiroshi, Photographer Captured through "Time and Light"
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of its opening, the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum will be holding the first public art museum exhibition tracing the work of Yamazaki Hiroshi, "Yamazaki Hiroshi: Plan and Coincidence," until May 10th. In addition to Yamazaki's representative photographs such as "Horizon Collection" and the "Cherry Blossom" series, the exhibition will feature approximately 200 works, including video works and new works. The exhibition is structured to provide an overview of Yamazaki Hiroshi's career from a contemporary perspective.
■Architecture that makes use of nature. Architect Fujimori Terunobu Exhibition Held at Art Tower Mito
Architect Fujimori Terunobu's exhibition "Fujimori Terunobu Exhibition - Architecture that Makes Use of Nature and Street Observation" is being held at the Contemporary Art Gallery of Art Tower Mito in Ibaraki Prefecture until May 14th. The exhibition uses models, blueprints and photographs to introduce Fujimori's works, which he has created based on the themes of "how to utilize natural materials in modern architecture" and "how to incorporate plants into architecture." You can also see a partial reproduction of the "Mosaic Tile Museum" and other exhibits.
■Dick Bruna design exhibition held: What is the reason behind Miffy's simplicity?
The "The True Nature of Simplicity: Dick Bruna's Design Exhibition," tracing the design trajectory of Dutch picture book author Dick Bruna, will be held until May 8th at the Event Square on the 8th floor of Matsuya Ginza in Ginza, Tokyo. The exhibition will display approximately 500 items, including over 200 paper bags, approximately 40 original designs and sketches, as well as approximately 30 original picture book illustrations and reproductions of posters.
