French artist Francois Alary's first solo exhibition in Japan, "Critical Localism," will be held at CALM&PUNK GALLERY in Nishi-Azabu from May 24th to June 5th.
Francois is a painter originally from the south of France who currently has his studio in the suburbs of Paris. This exhibition features 21 drawings, primarily monochrome depictions of the scenery of his hometown. His style is characterized by a mix of dark and familiar images.
In 2004, he and his partner, Ophelie Klere, launched the fashion brand "devastee," which has been shown at Paris Fashion Week. Similar to his paintings, the brand uses monochrome textiles and graphics. In Japan, his work has been sold at Isetan Shinjuku's Re-Style Plus and other outlets.
