Issey Miyake to hold live and talk event with Open Reel Ensemble

May 24, 2013

On July 13th, a talk and live performance event featuring ISSEY MIYAKE designer Yoshiyuki Miyamae and members of the music project "Open Reel Ensemble" will be held at ISSEY MIYAKE / SEMBA in Minami-Senba, Osaka.
In addition to the in-store live performance, the event will feature a talk session where behind-the-scenes stories from Paris Fashion Week will be revealed. Also, a limited-edition ISSEY MIYAKE x OPEN REEL ENSEMBLE collaboration denim (30,450 yen) will be on sale. Purchasers of items over 30,000 yen will receive a special CD with a DVD. Participation in the event requires advance registration via email. 100 people will be selected by lottery.
Open Reel Ensemble is a five-member music project formed in 2009, centered around Ei Wada. They combine old-fashioned open-reel magnetic recorders with computers to perform them as "instruments." Their innovative techniques and unique tones have earned them acclaim both in Japan and overseas. Inspired by seeing their live performance, Miyamae commissioned the group to provide original music for three seasons, starting with the 2012-13 Autumn/Winter season, his second show since becoming Issey Miyake's designer. They also performed live at the 2013-14 Autumn/Winter show, garnering international media attention. Furthermore, in March of this year, Open Reel Ensemble published their first book, "Kaiten ~En-Cyclepedia~." Beginning with a clear understanding of who Open Reel Ensemble is, the book explores their present and future, and includes interviews with Seigo Matsuoka, Yoshihide Otomo, Naohiro Ukawa, Naruyoshi Kikuchi, zAk, and Masakatsu Takagi. The book includes a documentary on the production of their new song, "Cyclatrous," and a live DVD. Furthermore, an album compiling the original show sounds created over three seasons for Issey Miyake's Paris Collection will be released this summer.
