Versus Versace has announced a collaboration with singer M.I.A., releasing a 19-piece capsule collection that fuses the worlds of music and fashion. The designs feature kaleidoscopic patterns inspired by a fake Versace piece M.I.A. found in a London market as a teenager, and graphic prints incorporating Versace's signature Medusa, gold medallions, and Greca patterns. "The conversation about those involved in the brand's counterfeiting business has always been a part of M.I.A.'s culture. Versace designs have always been copied, but by copying counterfeits, we wanted to create a new cycle in which the counterfeiters themselves are copied," M.I.A. said. In June, Versace won a four-year lawsuit against a counterfeit goods dealer. The lineup includes T-shirts, printed denim, silk shirts, jersey dresses, and military outerwear for both men and women. The collection will be available for purchase exclusively at the brand's official website and Hong Kong store from October 16th.
The campaign models M.I.A. and a friend, who were photographed by Mexican photographer Jaime Martinez in a London market using a special camera that can take multiple images, and GIF animations were also created using the photos.
M.I.A. is scheduled to release her new album, "Matangi," on November 5th.
