Turn the dial to see the "new clothes." ANREALAGE [14SS Tokyo Collection]

Oct 17, 2013

ANREALAGE unveiled its 2014 Spring/Summer collection on the 16th. The theme was "SIZE." Two models appeared together at the start of the show. One wore an oversized peacoat with thick stripes and large gingham pants. The other, in contrast, wore a short jacket with thin stripes and cropped pants with fine gingham. Other looks continued, playing with extreme differences in size between patterns and silhouettes, including a look that layered a large checked chiffon dress over a fine checked one, and a look that reversed the roles of inner and outer layers by layering a kid's-sized blouson over an oversized shirt. The collaboration bag with PORTER was also available in two sizes, large and small. "I wanted to express how changing the size can change the design and the way you wear something," said designer Kunihiko Morinaga. Three models with different body types then appeared, all wearing matching simple black dresses. The girls' dresses gradually rose from the hem, reminiscent of Hussein Chalayan's work, transforming into three different dresses, each with a different degree of draping. Special threads were threaded throughout the garments, and turning dials on the garments wound the threads to create the drape and gathers. While the show featured an automated system, in reality, the wearer could manually adjust the adjustments. The collars and hems of jackets and dresses shrank, changing size, and stripes and checks transformed, creating new designs. "Rather than choosing from a limited range of sizes, I wanted to create clothes that fit each individual's body shape and preferences (which are unique to each individual). Simply shrinking the garments creates a different design, expanding the possibilities of clothing," Morinaga said. Materials were selected with commercialization in mind, and all items are washable.
