Dior Icon Bag Event at Shinjuku Isetan. Italian craftsmen also visit Japan.

Oct 22, 2013

Dior will open a pop-up shop on the 4th floor West Park/Luxury Stage of the Isetan Shinjuku store from October 23rd to October 29th. The shop will showcase the appeal of the house's signature bag collections, including Lady Dior and Dior Bar, as well as traditional craftsmanship. From the 26th to the 29th, artisans from an Italian bag workshop will visit Japan to give demonstrations. The opening times are 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM, and 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM (subject to change). Lady Dior, launched in 1995, is also famous for being a favorite of Princess Diana, who received one as a gift from French President Jacques Chirac. Originally named "Cannage," after a pattern inspired by Napoleon III's chair, the bag was renamed "Lady Dior" after it was gifted to Princess Diana. Meanwhile, Dior Bar debuted in the 2013 Spring/Summer collection, created by artistic director Raf Simons. The design was inspired by the "Bar Jacket" created by Monsieur Dior, and the butterfly-shaped metal fittings on the side create a waist-shaped silhouette. The Bar Jacket is a symbol of the "New Look," which was introduced as post-war fashion in 1947 and emphasized femininity with its "8"-like lines.
