On October 30th, Isetan renewed its iconic tartan pattern, which it has used for 55 years. To coincide with this, Isetan is holding a limited-time event at The Stage on the first floor of its Shinjuku store, featuring a selection of items using the new tartan, "Macmillan/Isetan." The event, titled "My Takarabako," will feature a lineup of limited-time items created in collaboration between Isetan and around 20 domestic and international brands to coincide with the tartan renewal. The main focus will be on collaborations between authentic Scottish brands and tartan checks.
MACKINTOSH has released a coat lined with Macmillan/Isetan, produced by Scottish fabric manufacturer Lochcarron of Scotland. Bobby dazzler, a brand handmade by London-based creators, has produced teddy bears using Macmillan/Isetan, each with a different expression. There are three types of tote bags from mina perhonen. The brand originally used Lochcarron fabric, and its original blue tartan is registered with the Scottish Tartan Register. This time, bags using this tartan are also being released.
Among the symbolic items of this collaboration is a set of a kaleidoscope, single cask whiskey, and a pair of Edo Kiriko glasses. Kaleidoscopes originate in Scotland and are a familiar item in the region. The tartan on the glasses is handmade by a Japanese Edo Kiriko artisan.
Other items on offer include trunks from popular Parisian select shop Merci, bags from Scottish brand Queen and Belle, rain boots from Hunter, scarves from Johnstons, notebooks from Moleskine, and from Japan, umbrellas from Aurora, reversible ties from Giraffe, and socks from Antipasto. A Rubik's Cube is also available for overseas markets. "We've created products using a new tartan aimed at female customers, while breaking away from the traditional image of tartan. We've not limited it to fashion items, but also offer miscellaneous goods, proposing a lifestyle. We would like to open a satellite shop that will one day stock only items made with this tartan," said the buyer in charge.
