Isetan's new tartan was unveiled today. President Hiroaki Onishi said, "The new pattern is part of fashion."

Oct 30, 2013

On October 30th, Isetan's iconic tartan pattern was renewed as "Macmillan/Isetan." The announcement ceremony was held at the Isetan Shinjuku store. Attending were Taiyo Oh, Representative Director and President of Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings, and Stephen Baker, Representative of the Scottish International Development Agency in Japan. The ceremony began with a performance of bagpipes, a traditional Scottish instrument. With a panel featuring the new tartan in the background, Onishi said, "Last fall, we received the Tartan Award (Packaging Category) from the Scottish Tartan Association for our contributions to promoting tartan in Japan. This award prompted us to create a new, original tartan. This renewal marks an important turning point for Isetan. It's not just about changing the pattern on our paper bags; we want to develop the new tartan as a branding tool going forward. We'd be delighted if our shopping bags become an integral part of our customers' lives, both as accessories and as part of their fashion." Baker also commented, "I think Isetan's renewal of its tartan reflects the store's commitment to always moving forward, never content with the status quo. We look forward to continuing to work with Isetan to spread the value of tartan to as many people as possible." Macmillan/Isetan has been officially registered with the Scottish Tartan Registry, which oversees all tartans worldwide. Additionally, at Isetan Shinjuku, products featuring the new Macmillan/Isetan will be available on The Stage on the first floor and throughout each floor.
