Rag & Bone and a chocolate factory!? The world's first pop-up store opens at Isetan

Oct 10, 2013

The world's first pop-up store, "rag & bone New York," for New York lifestyle brand rag & bone, opened on the 9th at The Stage on the first floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku. It will be open until the 15th.

To commemorate the event, designers Marcus Wainwright and David Neville will be visiting Japan. The store consists of two parts: one inspired by the duo's office and showroom in Meatpacking, New York, and the other inspired by New York cityscapes and back alleys drawn by an artist who came to Japan from New York for the occasion, expressing their "identity" and "New York lifestyle." The shop will feature a variety of items that express the fusion of the duo's British roots and their current base of operations, New York, including a Smythson notebook engraved with the duo's original phrase, "It's only fashion (but I like it)," and Hunter rubber boots with a classic, riding-boot-like silhouette. The men's line will feature a classic denim jacket made with Japanese selvedge denim, available exclusively in Japan and exclusively at Isetan. The women's line will feature specially made-to-order Isetan-exclusive items, including a sweater featuring road sign numbers, a Japan-exclusive colorway of the brand's signature Tuxedo Skinny-vintage stripe, the Classic Newbury Italian leather boots with a suede base accented with white lines, and a new colorway of the classic Holst cashmere wool pullover. The brand will also be releasing its first-ever kids' size t-shirts and tote bags. The "Number Tee" t-shirt is also available in unisex sizes.

As a special collaboration with Brooklyn-based chocolate brand "Mast Brothers Chocolate," the pop-up store will also be selling original chocolates. 50 chocolates will contain hidden golden tickets, giving away special prizes: 5 winners will receive a bag, and 45 winners will receive an original notebook.

"We're incredibly excited to be opening our world's first pop-up shop at Isetan Shinjuku. We wanted to combine the best of our roots in the UK with the great things about New York, where we're currently based. I think collaborating with traditional British brands like Smythson and Hunter really expresses the brand's identity," said David.

Marcus also said, "This shop only contains a small part of the brand's items, but it expresses the brand's history and worldview. We are very pleased to be able to introduce collaborative items not only with rag & bone, but also with brands that we think are cool and that we respect, such as beer mugs made in collaboration with a favorite bar near the office, and all-natural candles that are individually handmade."

David and Marcus personally served customers on the opening day.
