Dover Ginza starts selling basket totes from long-established Boston bag brand "Mark Cross"

Apr 25, 2014

DOVER STREET MARKET GINZA will be selling MARK CROSS, a long-established Boston-based bag brand, in its first-floor bag space on April 26th.

The latest tote bag from the MAN RAY RATTAN collection features a completely handmade rattan body. The handles and flap are made of high-quality Italian Saffiano (embossed) leather. The interior is lined with cotton twill. Available in two colors, red and white, the small size is priced at 158,000 yen and the large size at 177,700 yen.

The lineup also includes the brand's best-selling "GRACE BOX," created for Grace Kelly's role as the heroine in Alfred Hitchcock's film "Rear Window." Mark Cross was founded in Boston in 1845 as a saddlery manufacturer, and Patrick Murphy, who acquired the brand, opened stores in New York and London. Gerald Murphy, who became the official successor in 1934, expanded the business to include bags and cigarette cases. The store closed once in the 1990s, but was revived in 2011, presenting a collection inspired by the archives.
