Chanel presented its 2017-18 Cruise Collection at the Grand Palais in Paris on May 3rd (local time). Inspired by ancient Greece, the collection featured an exotic runway at La Galerie Courbe, featuring a beautiful sunset over the Aegean Sea and a stone colonnade reminiscent of the Parthenon. This season's collection featured supple draping and flowing lines. Models emerged from the "Temple of Chanel" and gracefully crossed the runway, their dresses billowing in the wind like Venus from Greek mythology. Standing out were elegant silhouettes that combined light, textured materials, including the brand's iconic tweed, jersey, leather, silk, linen, and lace. Suits featured nuanced terracotta colors with varying borders and silk scarves around the neck. Jersey and knit dresses feature all-over patterns of ancient motifs, such as the mandorus, with long ribbon straps, aquarius-shaped waistlines, and a double C design made of laurel leaves. These dresses evoke the essence of Greek mythology and traditional codes, creating an atmosphere symbolizing the collection's theme, "The Modernity of Antiquity." The curvaceous silhouettes of swimwear draped over silk and PVC gowns, and evening dresses with marble-like corset belts, are reminiscent of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty. The footwear and accessories are also noteworthy. Gladiator sandals with cylindrical heels were worn on the feet. Laurel-shaped hair accessories and sunglasses also caught the eye. The generously layered bracelets, sautoirs, and gold cuffs also created a classic yet modern and sophisticated atmosphere, typical of Chanel. In addition, a circular bag decorated with an owl motif and the latest Gabrielle de Chanel creations added a touch of glamour to the look, serving as elements that showcase the Maison's allure.
