LOUIS VUITTON will open a limited-time pop-up store, "LOUIS VUITTON in collaboration with FRAGMENT POP-UP STORE," at The Mass & Ba-tsu Art Gallery in Harajuku, Tokyo. The store will run from April 22nd to May 5th.
The store will be the first in Japan to sell the Fall/Winter 2017 Men's Pre-Collection, a collaboration between Louis Vuitton Men's Collection Artistic Director Kim Jones and Hiroshi Fujiwara, the artist behind fragment design. This pop-up store will be held simultaneously in Japan and Singapore (with plans to subsequently open in various locations around the world).
The imagery for this pre-collection is inspired by downtown New York in 1980 and the art and community centered around Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat. The collection's core is a new collaboration with Fujiwara. Based on the fictional band "Louis V and The Fragments," created by Fujiwara, Louis Vuitton, and Fragment Design, the collection features preppy elements and fresh, bold embroidery and prints.
Continuing this theme, the pop-up store features a metro car decorated with neon-colored graphics by Fujiwara and graffiti designer SKATE THING, displaying products. The store also features a "music room" where Kim and Fujiwara personally display their private record collections.
The store will also offer special content in line with the collection's theme. A special hot stamping service will be available exclusively to purchasers of the Porte Address (¥21,000). Special custom pieces such as guitar cases, turntable cases, and trunks will also be on display and for sale. Top creator Daito Manabe will also be showcasing "morphing," an immersive digital installation featuring 32 panel screens. Visitors can easily participate in filming, and the resulting footage will be sent to their email address at a later date. The lineup includes a wide range of items, including "Monogram Eclipse" leather goods, a collaboration with Fragment Design, as well as wallets, card cases, iPhone cases, watches, and shoes, in addition to messengers, backpacks, and other bags. Some leather goods feature illustrations of floppy disks and USB drives, which Fujiwara says were inspired by Sony products. Japan-exclusive items include the Kaba Light (¥222,000) featuring both brands' names and logos on monogram canvas, and sneaker boots (cream, ¥87,000). Graffiti-inspired rainbow-colored paisley bandanas (¥33,000) and stoles (¥67,000) will also be available exclusively at the pop-up store.
