"20th Century Fashion and Interiors - From Poiret to Chanel and Saint Laurent" will be held at the Panasonic Shiodome Museum in Tokyo from September 17th to November 23rd.
This exhibition traces the history of fashion and interiors, focusing on Parisian haute couture from 1900 to the 1960s, through approximately 130 pieces (including 36 costumes) exhibited by the Shimane Prefectural Iwami Art Museum, which has a high-quality collection in the field of fashion. Along with the trends in 20th century fashion, the exhibition will also display major interiors that adorned daily life alongside fashion. The exhibition will feature costumes by Paul Poiret, Chanel, Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Yves Saint-Laurent, and other designers, as well as decorative styles such as Empire, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and mid-century modern. In addition to accessories such as bags and shoes, the exhibition will also feature a wide range of related works, including fashion plates from fashion magazines of the era, such as Les Modes and Fémina, and fashion photographs by American photographer Richard Avedon. Two of the exhibition's pochoir print collections, "Paul Poiret Dresses as Told by Paul Iribe" and "The Works of Paul Poiret as Seen by Georges Lepape," will be available as digital books, allowing visitors to view all of the images included. There will also be an area set up within the exhibition venue where photography is permitted.
