Paul Smith unveiled his Spring/Summer 2017 women's collection in London on September 18th. The collection featured flowers, a motif that lies at the origin of Paul Smith's designs. The collection featured a variety of pieces inspired by flowers used as symbols of friendship and intimacy, as well as floral decorations used for ceremonial purposes. The brand's legacy, photographic floral prints, were woven into fabrics with a hand-drawn effect. Crayon-like tulips bloomed vibrantly on tailoring and dresses. Intricate origami-like Greek-inspired dresses exuded effortless presence, while jackets and trousers featured subtle tie details at the waist for a masculine touch. The colors were inspired by the hues of works exhibited in a solo exhibition by Swedish painter Hilma af Klint at the Serpentine Gallery.
In addition, the new "Artist Stripe" stripe, inspired by the colors seen in the works of Expressionist artists, was used on sandals, espadrilles, and bags, including the iconic "Consatina Bag."
The show was held in a venue with a hard, industrial atmosphere. Delicate natural wildflowers were arranged on the runway, further enhancing the contrasting natural feeling of the collection.
