Louis Vuitton presents Les Extraits Collection

"I wanted to venture into territory that few have ventured before. I wanted to reinterpret Extrait de Parfum in a modern way, bringing light and layering, while at the same time portraying lightness. I wanted to deconstruct the very creation that is the basis of perfume. This idea led to the birth of the Les Extraits Collection - five fragrances that eliminate top, heart and base notes to reveal the essence of each olfactory note."

Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud

"My intention was to approach this project from a sculptural perspective, to bring something different to perfume. Not a geometrically perfected form, but movement itself. A movement that appeals to the eye, with the added charm of capturing a moment in time."

Frank Gehry

An Extraordinary Journey
Les Extraits Collection
Like a yacht leaving the shore, it moves away to reconnect with its true essence, then returns in an arc.
Perfume becomes an aura. Without a set destination, you are transported to a journey enveloped in tranquility, freed from constraints and floating in time.
As the scent rises, it takes shape, sculpted by glorious waves.
Extraits fills a moment with new and rich memories.
Memory takes your breath away, and the clear azure, the shadow of a passing dream, brings a sense of intense tension.
The five senses, in their extreme modesty, promise infinity.
Sight, touch, and smell.
Jacques Cavalier-Belletrud was in charge of smell.
And Frank Gehry was in charge of sight.

What united Frank Gehry and Jacques Cavalier-Belletrud was a desire to find eternity in the impermanence of impermanence, and the uniqueness in the universal. Each, in their own unique way, celebrated movement within an eternal framework, the harmony between straight and curved lines, and the tension that gives form to beauty. Pure emotion. The roundness of the bottle meets the essence of exquisite perfumery—the breath of fragrance—a union of the material—glass—and the spirit—of perfume.

The Les Extraits Collection is the culmination of Florian Joy's spirit in pursuing his vocation as a perfumer. The sensation of skin contact is clarified by smoothing the characteristics of five key notes. This new fragrance collection is a hymn to freedom, absolute movement, the breath of life, and the constant change of nature.

It delves into the essence of materials, touches emotions, and captures the breath of life. It unleashes scent by concentrating it into Extraits. Allowing fragrance to blossom without any constraints—as if space and gravity did not exist.

"I don't believe in restraint when it comes to beauty. Perfume creates moments of joy to be experienced alone and to share with others. It is an act of love, towards others and towards oneself. My stance is to provoke revolution while avoiding separation, to use jasmine to create notes of tobacco, amber to create notes of tea, and to create worlds full of illusion. Frank Gehry and I share the desire to create imbalances and contrasts that can become balance, to draw lines connecting things that seem irreconcilable. A desire to innovate without denying what has come before."

A reborn Extrait de Parfum
"To reinvent the idea of Extrait, it was important to carefully select the ingredients and bring out their fundamental truth. This meant stripping away unnecessary affectation and deepening the connection with the seductive power of a precious drop applied behind the ear. Extrait is the silhouette of perfume, a means of expressing its essence."
Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud

Born and raised in Grasse, the mecca of perfumery, Jacques says, "I imagine what a scent will be like before I experience it." As Louis Vuitton's in-house Master Perfumer, Jacques pushed his sensitivity to the limits in creating the Les Xextres collection, condensing the essence of craftsmanship, tradition, and ongoing history into five fragrances. These five fragrances echo five equally important worlds of scent that Jacques discovered as a child. At just nine years old, Jacques declared to his parents, "I want to be a perfumer," and the map of scents he learned as a child remains vividly etched in his memory. For Jacques, these five fragrances are also a tribute to the people who have supported him in building his career thus far. Even as a Master Perfumer, Jacques continues to seek surprises, and he has this to say about the Les Xextres collection: "It's a deepening of emotion, or in other words, a deepening of character. An inherent essence of the perfume that lasts on the skin while remaining pleasant to the senses. An essence that is recognizable without feeling heavy. I always find something surprising in the ingredients. When I create an accord, I strive to reveal something eternally beautiful. I'm fortunate to be able to use modern tools to extract olfactory compounds, to capture a gentle breeze or shed light on something that may seem too obscure."

"I wanted to revisit the main notes of perfume - to give them a twist, to expand them, to highlight certain aspects and reveal their pure beauty. Each time I revisit a floral, chypre or amber note, I can create movement, a rounded, comfortable shape. I wanted to create a scent that was long-lasting and fresh, sensual but not heavy."
Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud

Without any distinction between top, heart and base notes, these five fragrances are like cylinders, stretched and rounded by the scent. A pure sensation born from the blending of line, light and movement. Classic and timeless.

Like a swimmer cutting through the foaming seawater, pure vibrations of scent travel through the air. Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud, Louis Vuitton's in-house Master Perfumer, has distilled the spirit of these vibrations. It celebrates this heavenly rhythm through a palette of five extraits de parfum.

A Sculptural Odyssey: A Bottle Designed by Frank Gehry
For Frank Gehry, one of the greatest masters of contemporary architecture, this is his first time designing a fragrance bottle. This is why he felt even more strongly about creating a work that embodies the essence of his life's experiences—his architectural spirit and the essence of his signature curves.

The artist's talent for expressing movement is embodied in a form that unfetteredly expands into space. In a way, it also expresses Frank Gehry's passion for sailing. "When sailing, there is an intimate relationship between the skipper at the helm, the wind, and the visual impression it creates. The sails move gently, the air moves, and the skipper is constantly trying to maintain his balance. There is movement, but it's not of the same quality as in a racing car." Frank Gehry Starting with the original bottle designed by Marc Newson, Frank Gehry modified and widened the lines. His work transformed straight lines into ellipses, and curves into arcs, eventually evoking the image of a transparent sail gliding through a rift in space. He then designed the cap from a sheet of aluminum, crinkling it like fabric, with the Louis Vuitton motif engraved on the inside of this lightweight, hand-polished cap. Louis Vuitton's exceptional savoir-faire allows for all kinds of transformations. This luminous, flower-shaped cap is the culmination of a brilliant idea. The signature on the side of the bottle is embossed, shimmering with light.

A lover of the sea, Frank Gehry plays with space, weaving invisible ropes around the glass hull. The walls stretch upward, and the sides resemble two taut sails, widening to allow the fragrance to penetrate. A gust of wind paints the air amber. Flowers float in the air, stars melt into liquid, and dazzling bodies hover high above the Earth. "E la nave va" (And the ship sails)—the cap, wrinkled by the swell of the ocean, reflects the spray of the waves and, above all, the absolute movement of life and creation. For Frank Gehry, a passionate sailor, this absolute movement is the breath of the air and the spirit of freedom symbolized by sails.

The vast world we are navigating has been discovered and redesigned by two masters, one guided by sight and the other by smell, imbuing it with their own unique personalities – a testament to undoubted talent and skill. Rather than settling on anything, they sought to manipulate sensations like sails, achieving what sailors call "catching the wind."

"How can we create something that is not only eye-catching, but also captivating enough to evoke the House and its contents? This was the starting point for exploring these shapes... We wanted to create something that evokes emotion, something that brings sensations to life. A bottle that makes you exclaim 'Ah!' when you see it, and a fragrance that makes you exclaim the same when you smell it."
Frank Gehry

And so the conditions for creating dreams were created. The relationship between these two masters began. It was a work to share an ideal, both tangible and intangible. This ideal was shaped by the pulse of creativity, a rhythm neither fragmented nor diminished, but glorious, inspired, and always striving for greater dimensions.

Therefore, this collection is not merely a collaboration, but the fruit and manifesto of an encounter, an exchange of talents. It is a hymn to movement, its transparency and fluidity. The pull of seduction, self-evident yet complex, the momentum of life born from the immense world of Les Fontaines Parfumées in Grasse, an architectural firm in Los Angeles, and the senses. A collaboration that celebrates boundless expanse for both novice sailors and seasoned yachtsmen.

The Spirit of Perfume
The Les Xextres collection reflects the essence of travel, a tradition Louis Vuitton has celebrated since its founding. A journey always reaching further and reaching more extraordinary horizons – the destination on this journey is a place where absolute beauty is concentrated with Extrait de Parfum. The companion on this journey is a highly concentrated and powerful fragrance reinterpreted by a Master Perfumer who knows how to manipulate shadows and light to create a truly radiant and perfect note. This Master Perfumer also knows how to bring out the invisible from the visible. In the universal language of intuition, he seeks to capture the pure and dazzling movement of scents, and the intimate relationship between the wearer's movements and the fragrance's top and bottom notes. To create fragrances that are valued not only for today but for eternity. Looking to the future, without severing from the past, which never ceases to inspire. Every journey opens a window wide to the world.

The universe once again becomes a resonant echo chamber, a garden washed by waves. Sky, earth, and the iridescent, illuminated sea come together in a halo of sensation. A soft, ephemeral halo that encompasses everything. A halo that surges from the stars and the depths of the ocean.

Love rises, drawn by an extraordinary bouquet suspended in mid-air. The sun gently illuminates the horizon, the wind blows through the trees, and the journey to dreamy islands and golden temples floating beyond time and space. An illusion unfolds, stimulating the senses.

A score of five fragrances completes this otherworldly odyssey.

The hanging gardens invite us into the distance. To gaze upon this garden is to enter a kingdom of ever-changing seasons, to plunge into a "cascade of flowers." Nature unfolds its fragrance in a blend of jasmine sambac, may rose, osmanthus and Indian tuberose. A bouquet of swirling petals, emotive emotion and delicate detail gives the sensation of floating and watching the world unfold. "The rose is the most versatile flower, possessing lemony freshness, tea notes and spicy aspects. Jasmine, on the other hand, is more animalistic and masculine," explains Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud.

Cosmic Cloud 100ml, 77,000 yen (tax included)
A flight away from earthly life, an immersive and interactive experience for the senses. A journey to uncharted territory, to the border between reality and fantasy. Caressed by musk, accented by Venezuelan tonka bean like chocolate crumbs. Light, rounded notes, dancing like a whirlwind, defying gravity. Powdery and fruity musk, ambrette absolute extracted from the pistils of Peruvian poppies... Patchouli unleashes its charms, supported by powerful chypre and oakmoss. Citrus and bergamot accords and the scent of light-soaked forest undergrowth also linger. "Cosmic Cloud" is, above all, a sensual and vivid variation on the monochrome shimmering clouds among the stars of the universe.

As the horizon takes on a clear, endless line, an exciting, dizzying and extraordinary journey begins. It all begins and is reborn through the alchemy of scent. "The essence of chypre, the first subtle accord to appear in modern perfumery. I wanted to highlight the chypre's DNA while infusing it with a contemporary touch," says Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud. "Then, flowers such as jasmine grandiflorum, patchouli and may rose bring a sensation like illuminating the surroundings. Yerba mate also plays an important role with its fresh, transparent green notes reminiscent of lily of the valley."

"We maintained the sophistication of the layered woody notes while transforming them with the bold notes of vanilla scents such as vetiver and ylang-ylang. The framework of the woody notes has, so to speak, been carbonized, and what was previously a thick, blocky fragrance now has a sense of transparency. The key was to figure out how to bring the contours into sharper focus."

Symphony 100ml, ¥77,000 including tax
A sensation as if heaven and earth melt together, the endless joy brought by absolute light, the bouncy sparkle of floating islands swaying in the breeze, the spiciness of fresh ginger zest floating in a cocktail of bergamot and grapefruit. A lingering dazzle. Musky, fruity, velvety mellowness collide with a light reverberation. A radiant sparkle. A sensual score with sharply defined notes, befitting the music that resonates in an awakening world. Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud describes this fragrance as "a fusion of heaven and earth, a sublime harmony of the elements that make up the world."

Stellar Times 100ml, ¥77,000 incl. tax
Embark on a journey through time and space into the subconscious in search of fairytale temples and gardens adorned with mosaics and dreamy fountains. "Starting from the classic amber, with its strong notes of ambergris, vanilla and resin, floating on the ocean waves, I decided to create a soft, white, woody and profound amber," says Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud. A golden palace floating in the sky, a swirling melody of scents. Orange blossom, botanical amber and leather notes of Peruvian balsam combine. Amber, a classic oriental note, is liberated from gravity through a novel perfumery. A beautiful escape aboard the flying carpet of dreams begins.
