A new book, "Women Who Loved Cartier" (Shueisha, 2,300 yen), has been published, chronicling the lives of eight women who loved Cartier, complete with photographs from the time. Written by Rumiko Kawashima. The book features Grace Kelly, a Hollywood actress who wore a Cartier wedding ring and became Princess of Monaco; Jeanne Toussaint, who served as director of the high jewelry division in the early 20th century and laid the foundations of the brand; Barbara Hutton, the daughter of a wealthy man whose life was marred by misfortune; and other women, including Queen Alexandra, Duchess of Burleigh, the Marchioness of Windsor, Marie Bonaparte, and Empress Eugénie. Each woman shares her own story related to Cartier. In the book's afterword, Kawashima writes, "When it comes to Cartier, known as the 'jeweler to kings and king of jewelers,' with a long history spanning 167 years, the names of the people listed in the ledgers kept in the archives are as glamorous as the jewelry itself, making one's head spin. Learning about the lives of the people who owned each piece of jewelry brings each piece to life, tells its own story, and gives it even more meaning." Kawashima was born in Tokyo. After studying at the Sorbonne and the Air du Louvre, he began writing. He has written in a wide range of fields, including art, history, culture, and fashion, and is actively involved in cultural exchange between Japan and France and gives lectures. He currently resides in Paris. His major works include "Marie Antoinette on Her Last Days" and "The Three Women Chosen by Napoleon."
