Cartier sells Barbara Hutton necklace for $28 million

May 4, 2014

On April 7, Cartier purchased a necklace from American billionaire Barbara Hutton, a renowned jewelry collector and client, at an auction in Hong Kong. The necklace, featuring 27 strands of fine jadeite, sold for US$27.44 million (approximately JPY 2.8 billion), setting a new world record for the price paid for jadeite jewelry. The piece was a gift from Barbara's father, Franklin Rose Hutton, to celebrate her wedding to her first husband, Prince Alexis Mdivani. She later commissioned a matching jadeite, ruby, and diamond ring from Cartier.
