Tokyo Midtown in Roppongi will be holding its Christmas event, "Midtown Christmas 2014," from November 13th to December 25th. This year marks the eighth annual Tokyo Midtown Christmas, and this year's theme is "Midtown Cruise." The entire town will be decorated with various illuminations that represent a journey from "Earth" to "Space."
The main event is "Starlight Garden 2014," an illumination display on the approximately 2,000-square-meter lawn plaza. Among the 180,000 lights, based on Tokyo Midtown's familiar blue illumination color, "stick illuminations" will be making their Japan debut, reaching up to 4 meters in height. The dynamic movement of celestial bodies will be depicted with varying heights, intersections, and continuous light, varying in intensity and speed, creating a fantastical, floating space. Easily accessible from the station and offering views of Tokyo Tower, this spot is a great place to enjoy shopping and dinner. On the first floor of the plaza along Gaien Higashi-dori Street, there will be a "Welcome Illumination," which uses full-color LEDs to recreate natural phenomena such as auroras and sunrises. Midtown Garden will feature the white and blue-based "Starlight Road," the "Champagne Illumination" featuring approximately 20,000 white LEDs and snowfalls that represent falling snow, and the warm, candle-like "Tree Illumination." Inside the building, illuminations that were well-received last year will be making a comeback, including "Diamond Dust," where colorful particles of light sparkle, and the "Santa Tree," made up of approximately 1,800 Santa Clauses piled up. There will also be events such as a stamp rally where you can create your own original Christmas card, and Christmas live gospel and opera performances.
