"Mixturery," an original Mitsukoshi Isetan brand, focuses on high-quality materials and beautiful silhouettes befitting the elegant mature woman. This fall, the brand will release a number of masterpieces created in collaboration with painter Louis Terai.
The items can be broadly categorized into three.
The first is women's wear with the theme of "Fashion x Art x Japan," and will feature three items made using fabric printed with Louis Terai's works: a dress (44,000 yen), a cut-and-sew top (24,000 yen), and a skirt (36,000 yen).
The hand-printing was done by Asahi Dyeing, a 96-year-old company founded in 1918, known for being the first in Japan to print handkerchiefs. They continue to create beautiful textile products by developing a unique technique that combines the Italian "Madre" technique, which involves mixing a base paste made by blending dye and glue with a split glue to adjust the shade, with traditional Japanese printing techniques.
In this collaboration, they utilized the delicate sensibilities unique to Japanese artisans, and carried out processes such as "dyeing," "steaming," "washing," and "drying" by hand, resulting in elegant colors and patterns that highlight the beauty of the color combinations. The resulting garments have an even more striking presence when worn.
The second theme is "Art x Bags." Using Kyo-Yuzen pigments, these products are based on three iconic 3.1PhillipLim bags, with leather bags used as canvases. The Hourbag (¥150,000), MinuteBag (¥98,000), and CosmeticZip (¥57,000) each feature two designs, filling the entire fabric with Louis Terray's colorful world. These items are available exclusively at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi. The third item is a chocolate confectionery created with the theme of "Art x Chocolate." The chocolates are from Maribel's Ganache series, a brand from Soho, New York, and come in three types: a two-piece tote bag (¥1,600), a two-piece regular bag (¥1,500), and a four-piece bag (¥2,500). The packaging incorporates Louis Terray's artwork, creating a visually stunning "sweet treat." These products will be available from September 10th to 16th at the Promotion Space East on the third floor of the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Building, Style Edition on the fourth floor of the Ginza Mitsukoshi, and Authentic Style on the fourth floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. During the period, the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi and Isetan Shinjuku stores will be decorated with "museum" themed decorations. Louis Terray's artworks will be exhibited in a museum-style setting, and there are also plans to link the artworks with merchandise.
