Jonathan Zawada, who raises questions about the digital world, holds his first solo exhibition in Japan in Nishi-Azabu

Sep 9, 2014

Jonathan Zawada's first solo exhibition in Japan, "Touchingly Unfeeling," opens on September 13th at CALM & PUNK GALLERY in Nishi-Azabu, Tokyo. Zawada's unique interpretation visualizes themes such as the consequences of the "digitalization of life and society," which has driven the development of modern society while bringing both advantages and disadvantages. Zawada's work also explores concepts inspired by "Perlin noise," a computer-generated computer graphics technique developed by Ken Perlin to accurately represent real-world objects. Zawada's work raises questions about "acting in the digital world." His new series, including "Ancient Stone Tools Modeled, Shaped, and Colorfully Painted" and "Fabric Printed with 'Fighter Planes Embracing Images Circulating on the Internet,'" are comprised of a variety of media, including prints, sculptures, and video works. An opening reception featuring Zawada himself will be held on the 12th from 7pm.
Australian-born Zawada is a graphic designer based in Sydney, with clients including Colette in Paris, Liberty in London, Nike, and Uniqlo. Since moving to Los Angeles in 2011, he has focused more on fine art. He is currently expanding his range of techniques and expressions to include sculpture, video, installation, and painting.
