German artist Carolin Loebbert's solo exhibition "LOST" will be held at CALM & PUNK GALLERY in Nishi-Azabu, Tokyo, from August 9th. This exhibition traces a timeline of past, present, and future with the keyword "environment." While her illustrations are typically pop and cute, yet somewhat sinister, this time she presents an unprecedentedly realistic portrayal of humans disappearing into their environments. In addition to her "Lost" series, the exhibition will also feature three-dimensional works depicting withering creatures and objects using flowers and vases, as well as video works. Carolin Loebbert was born in Haltern, Westphalia, Germany in 1981. She studied illustration and communication design at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences in 2002. Since 2003, she has participated in group exhibitions around the world, including in Berlin, Strasbourg, and Tokyo. She began working as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer in 2004. For Mother's Day in 2012, her work was used as the main icon for Mitsukoshi Isetan's campaign. In the same year, her first solo exhibition in Japan, "Time Travel," featured works inlaid with hand-drawn illustrations of famous people from the past and contemporary motifs on vintage ceramics, and was exhibited at IDEE, LOFT, and other malls.
