ODO, an apparel brand from San Francisco, USA, has developed a pair of denim pants that are so stain-proof it's hard to believe. They may look like any other ordinary denim pants, but the material used is unique, with properties that repel water and oil without absorbing them. They also contain silver woven into the fabric, which is said to have a deodorizing effect due to the action of ions, eliminating the need for washing.
The project is off to a flying start on the Kickstarter website, raising approximately ¥1.2 million in just 10 hours and continuing to grow. In addition to the denim pants, T-shirts, scarves, and socks have also been announced and sold as sets. Of course, all three items are guaranteed to stay clean and fresh.
The idea for this project was born from the desire of an ODO member: "We're too busy to even do laundry properly, but we still want to stay clean and fresh." However, there's another important goal. ODO's mission is to "make water conservation a reality without changing your lifestyle." The amount of water needed to wash one pair of denim pants in a year is a staggering 7,200 cups. This amount is understandable when you consider that the average person drinks about 1,420 cups of water per year.
Orders are currently being accepted, with releases scheduled for June 2016. Current prices on Kickstarter are set at approximately 12,000 yen for the denim pants and 4,000 yen for the T-shirt. ODO members say that the current lineup is just the beginning, so it will be exciting to see what other products will be released in the future.
